How the check works to determine if my internet box is responsible for blocking the connection of Wi-Fi devices.

"Hello, my name is Enkior. I will assist you in verifying if your internet box is responsible for the issue you are experiencing with connecting your Wi-Fi device."

Introduction:

Assistant cligne des yeux - Parle.gif "To check if your internet access point is causing your Wi-Fi device pairing failure, there is an effective method to diagnose the problem: the cross-test. You will need a second phone or a second tablet to perform this operation."

To start this cross-test, it is necessary to identify the SSID(1) of your 2.4 GHz(2) access point as well as its associated password(3). Once this information is noted, I recommend unplugging your internet access point.

Next, I suggest taking a second phone (or your first phone if you are doing the rest of the operations on the Enki app with a tablet) and accessing the tethering menu(4) to set it to router mode(5). Please configure your phone’s tethering by assigning it the same SSID and password as your main internet access point(6).

Once the phone is configured for tethering, I invite you to reset your Wi-Fi device you want to pair, then proceed with its installation via the other phone or tablet where the Enki app is open.

"If you have questions about certain terms, I am here to answer them:

(1) SSID: This is the name of your Wi-Fi network.

(2) 2.4 GHz: Your Wi-Fi network broadcasts on a frequency. There are several frequencies: 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, 6 GHz, and 7 GHz. Your SSID can include one or more frequencies. It is important to configure your router to broadcast only one frequency per SSID, and therefore if you want multiple frequencies, have several different SSIDs.

(3) Password: This is your router's security key. Often found on a sticker on the router or displayed on a screen, you can view it.

(4) Tethering: This is a feature of your phone that allows it to act as a router using mobile data; mobile data is internet via 4G / 5G. Therefore, devices can connect via Wi-Fi to your phone to access the internet through mobile data.

(5) Router: This is the name given to the device that distributes internet, usually your internet box at home.

(6) Main internet access point: This is the router that receives the internet connection from the internet service provider and broadcasts this connection within the home."

Configuring your Wi-Fi hotspot on your smartphone:

"I will now give you a more concrete example of my explanations given in the introduction section.

My internet access point has the following information:

  • SSID: SFR-8fc8
  • Wi-Fi Password: Dn36kLm8ws3N

I therefore unplug the power of my main internet access point so it no longer broadcasts its network and is out of service.

I now configure the desired phone for tethering with the information from my internet box so it can take its place.

Assistant cligne des yeux - Alerte.gif "I want to warn you that if you are on Android, depending on the brand and model of your phone, the visuals and/or access paths may differ. This is related to the overlays applied by your phone's manufacturer. But overall, the process is similar. If you have difficulty, I invite you to contact the technical support of your phone's brand."

Android: iOS:
iOS - Activer le partage de connexion.gif
  1. Please open the "Settings" on your phone.

  2. Go to the menu "Connection & sharing" or "Tethering".

  3. Then select "Mobile Wi-Fi hotspot".

  4. Then select "Configure hotspot".

  5. Enter the SSID and password information from the internet box, in our example:
    Flèche Enki.png SSID: SFR-8fc8
    Flèche Enki.png Wi-Fi Password: Dn36kLm8ws3N

  6. Verify that the security is set to "WPA2".

  7. Also verify that the frequency band is set to "2.4 GHz".

  8. Confirm the changes you made.

  9. Finally, activate the mobile Wi-Fi hotspot.

  1. Please open the "Settings" on your phone.

  2. First, you need to configure the network SSID to match your internet box. To do this:

    • Click on the "General" menu.

    • Then select "About".

    • Click on the "Name" field, and change your iPhone name to the SSID name of your internet box
      Flèche Enki.png SSID: SFR-8fc8

    • Return to the "General" menu by clicking "Back" at the top left.

    • Return to the "Settings" menu by clicking "Back" at the top left.

  3. Go to the "Tethering" menu.

  4. Click on the "Password" field, and enter the password information of the internet box, in our example:
    Flèche Enki.png Wi-Fi Password: Dn36kLm8ws3N

  5. Turn on the toggle for the "Allow Others to Join" line to broadcast the Wi-Fi network.

  6. Finally, activate the toggle for the "Maximize Compatibility" line.

"It is very important on iOS to activate the toggle "Maximize Compatibility" because by default the iPhone will broadcast a Wi-Fi network with WPA2/WPA3 security encryption(7). However, our Wi-Fi devices are not compatible with WPA3. Therefore, the connection will not work. By activating this toggle, the encryption switches to WPA2." "If you have questions about certain terms, I am here to answer them:

(7) Wi-Fi Security Encryption: This is a method used to protect the information exchanged between your device and your Internet box."

Once you have done this, if the parameters you entered are correct and identical to your internet box, your other phone or tablet will automatically connect to this Wi-Fi network as if it were your internet box. You do not need to do anything.

"If your phone does not reconnect automatically, please go to its Wi-Fi settings and connect to the Wi-Fi network of your mobile hotspot.

If a password is requested, then the information you entered for the mobile hotspot is not identical to the internet box. I invite you to power your internet box back on and verify the Wi-Fi network information again. Then repeat the operations from the beginning."

I now invite you to reset your Wi-Fi device to factory settings. If you don’t know how to do this, feel free to consult its product sheet via our FAQ in the article: Enki Compatible Devices.

Once the device is reset, you can restart its pairing.

Android - Ajouter un objet.gif

1 - Open the Enki app by clicking on the "" icon in your list of installed apps on your phone.

2 - Click on "" at the top right of your screen.

3 - Then select "Add a device".

4 - Then select the type of device.

5 - Then select the brand of the device.

6 - Finally, select the model of the device.

7 - Continue the installation following the given instructions.

Notes:

Assistant cligne des yeux - Parle.gif
"Once the device is paired, you can disconnect the tethering and reconnect the power to your main internet access point. Since the SSID and password are identical, the device should automatically reconnect to your network.

"Two behaviors can be observed when you turn off your mobile Wi-Fi hotspot and then restart your internet. Of course, you must wait until the internet box is fully restarted and internet access is working to observe one of the following behaviors."

Behavior #1: Behavior #2:
  • The device successfully reconnects to your personal Wi-Fi network.
This means there is a configuration on your main internet access point causing the pairing problem. I suggest checking the configurations of your main internet access point, asking for help if needed from someone with technical skills, the system administrator, or your operator. (This problem is therefore not related to Enki)

  • The device does not reconnect to your personal Wi-Fi network:
Flèche Enki.png Please power cycle your Wi-Fi device; it should reconnect. If not, proceed to the next step.
Flèche Enki.png It is possible that your main internet access point has a configuration incompatible with the Wi-Fi device. I recommend checking the configurations of your main internet access point, seeking help if needed from someone with technical skills, the system administrator, or your operator. (This problem is therefore not related to Enki)
