How does the integration of my connected electric heaters with pilot wire work in a schedule? (Progressive integration method)

Summary:

This article guides you step by step in creating an effective heating automation schedule for your home 🏠, using a progressive integration method—that is, one device at a time. A practical example, neither too simple nor too complex, will help you easily understand and apply these principles.

Reminder:

This article supplements the one about how the connected heater works in the “Heating” menu. If you have not read it yet, click the link above to discover all the features of the Heating menu. ☝️

Reminder:

The schedule organizes the operation of all the heating devices in your home 🏠, not just one heater or one room. It applies to your entire home 🏠 to ensure overall thermal comfort.

When creating the schedule, think about your entire home 🏠, not an isolated area.

This tutorial guides you in effectively scheduling your heating according to your needs.

You will therefore be able to define a customized schedule that ensures thermal comfort while optimizing energy consumption.

Example of creating a schedule:

Before creating your schedule in the app, it is essential to examine your home’s configuration and first create the schedule on paper. Click the desired section below to display the explanations, which are provided as an example.

Our home

Our home:

Maison Enki - 3 pièces.png

Here is our home 🏠, which consists of three rooms equipped with heaters. The home 🏠 is organized as follows:

Flèche Enki 20px.png P1: The living room.

Flèche Enki 20px.png P2: The bathroom.

Flèche Enki 20px.png P3: The bedroom.

We therefore have three heaters to integrate into the schedule.

How do you create the schedule 📅 for the three heating systems?

We will use the “progressive integration” 🕰️ method for a precise and detailed 7-day schedule, with each day divided into 24 hours.

You will need to determine the state of each heating device at every moment, particularly at midnight, and then note the times when these states change.

It is crucial to clearly define the schedules for each of your heaters to optimize their efficiency and ensure suitable comfort.

Here, the schedules from Monday through Friday are identical, reflecting a work routine, while the weekend schedules differ to adapt to specific habits.

During the week, heating is reduced while people are away at work, but on weekends it is scheduled for optimal comfort at home.

What temperatures 🌡️ are recommended in a home?

The recommended temperatures 🌡️ in a home are as follows:

  • For a living area: 20.0°C

  • For a bedroom: 18.0°C

  • For a bathroom: 23.0°C

During a prolonged absence from a room, it is recommended to lower the temperature 🌡️ by 2 to 3 degrees to avoid unnecessary heating.

The temperatures are preset on the heater through its interface, according to the different modes.

How to create a schedule on paper: Progressive integration method

Establishing a schedule for the heating devices on paper:

P1: Living room.

  • Monday through Friday:
Flèche Enki 20px.png At midnight, the room is at a low temperature. It starts heating at 5:30 AM so that it is comfortable before leaving for work, then returns to a low temperature at 7:00 AM. The temperature rises again at 7:00 PM for returning from work and remains comfortable until 10:30 PM, bedtime.
  • Saturday and Sunday:
Flèche Enki 20px.png At midnight, the room remains at a low temperature until 8:00 AM, when we wake up. It then remains at a high temperature until 11:00 PM, so that it is comfortable throughout the day.

This therefore gives us a first schedule for the living room heating device, as follows:

  12:00 AM 5:30 AM 7:00 AM 8:00 AM 7:00 PM 10:30 PM 11:00 PM
Monday Eco Comfort Eco Comfort Eco
Tuesday Eco Comfort Eco Comfort Eco
Wednesday Eco Comfort Eco Comfort Eco
Thursday Eco Comfort Eco Comfort Eco
Friday Eco Comfort Eco Comfort Eco
Saturday Eco Comfort Eco
Sunday Eco Comfort Eco

P2: Bathroom.

  • Monday through Friday:
Flèche Enki 20px.png At midnight, the room is at a low temperature until 5:00 AM. It then heats up to prepare for getting ready before leaving for work, then returns to a low temperature at 6:00 AM.
  • Saturday and Sunday:
Flèche Enki 20px.png At midnight, the room is at a low temperature until 7:00 PM. It then heats up to prepare for getting ready in the evening, then returns to a low temperature at 8:00 PM.

Here is the second heating schedule, for the bathroom:

  12:00 AM 5:00 AM 6:00 AM 7:00 PM 8:00 PM
Monday Eco Comfort Eco
Tuesday Eco Comfort Eco
Wednesday Eco Comfort Eco
Thursday Eco Comfort Eco
Friday Eco Comfort Eco
Saturday Eco Comfort Eco
Sunday Eco Comfort Eco

P3: Bedroom.

  • Monday through Friday:
Flèche Enki 20px.png At midnight, the room is at a high temperature for the night. At 5:30 AM, it switches to a low temperature, then switches back to a high temperature at 10:00 PM for our return and the night.
  • Saturday and Sunday:
Flèche Enki 20px.png The temperature remains high from midnight to 8:00 AM, then low throughout the day until 10:30 PM, before switching back to a high temperature for the night.

Here is the third heating schedule, for the bedroom:

  12:00 AM 5:30 AM 8:00 AM 10:00 PM 10:30 PM
Monday Comfort Eco Comfort
Tuesday Comfort Eco Comfort
Wednesday Comfort Eco Comfort
Thursday Comfort Eco Comfort
Friday Comfort Eco Comfort
Saturday Comfort Eco Comfort

Assemble your heating schedules to create one schedule for all your devices.

P1 + P2: Living room and bathroom.

Combining the first two schedules will therefore give us a first common schedule for our heating devices.

You must include all the times listed in the two previous schedules:

12:00 AM 5:00 AM 5:30 AM 6:00 AM 7:00 AM 8:00 AM 7:00 PM 8:00 PM 10:30 PM 11:00 PM

Then compare the different states of your heating devices by combining your schedules to derive modes:

Mode 1 (M1)
P1: Eco
P2: Eco
Mode 2 (M2)
P1: Eco
P2: Comfort
Mode 3 (M3)
P1: Comfort
P2: Comfort
Mode 4 (M4)
P1: Comfort
P2: Eco

Combine the schedules of your two heating devices to create a common schedule.

  12:00 AM 5:00 AM 5:30 AM 6:00 AM 7:00 AM 8:00 AM 7:00 PM 8:00 PM 10:30 PM 11:00 PM

Friday M1 M2 M3 M4 M1 M4 M1
Saturday M1 M4 M3 M4 M1
Sunday M1 M4 M3 M4 M1

P1 + P2 + P3: Living room, bathroom, and bedroom.

Next, add the third heating device and integrate its schedule into the common schedule that has already been established.

Include all the times from both schedules:

12:00 AM 5:00 AM 5:30 AM 6:00 AM 7:00 AM 8:00 AM 7:00 PM 8:00 PM 10:00 PM 10:30 PM 11:00 PM

Then compare the different states of your heating devices by combining your schedules to derive modes:

Let's name our modes so that we can configure them in the app before creating the schedule:

  • Night: The period when we sleep.
  • Present: When we are in the main part of the house.
  • Away: When no one is at home.
  • Morning – Heat bathroom: Heating the bathroom when we wake up.
  • Bathroom + Living room: Heating the bathroom when the living room is occupied.
  • Evening – Heat bedroom: Heating the bedroom at the beginning of the evening.

Very good. Now that the 🕰️ heating times for the radiators in the schedule for the house 🏠 have been defined and we have adapted our different modes, we need to program these settings in the Enki app 📅 Logo application Enki (petit).png. This will make it possible to manage the temperature according to our needs, ensuring comfort and energy savings.

How to transfer this schedule to the app:

The schedule that will be created will be based on the one previously established on paper. The elements of this schedule will then be entered into the app. Click the desired section below to display the explanations provided as an example.

You can only copy your day to this 7-day schedule, not to other schedules.

06 – Preparing Saturday

After the week, we need to focus on designing the weekend. As with the week, we need to determine the status of each radiator at 12:00 AM, then at each precise time 🕰️ when a radiator changes status.

23 - Access the first day of the weekend by clicking Saturday in the list of days in your schedule.

24 - We will reset Saturday by deleting all saved modes, as we would for a new schedule.

  1. Select a mode to delete.
  2. Click "Delete" at the bottom of the screen.

08 – Copying Saturday to Sunday

Saturday's schedule must also be applied to Sunday. To do this, duplicate it for Sunday:

  1. Click "Apply to other days".
  2. Select the applicable days (Sunday).
  3. Click "✓" on iOS or "Save" on Android.
  4. Return to the general schedule with "←" in the upper-left corner and verify that the copy was completed successfully.

This function makes it easier to duplicate a day's schedule to other days.

You can copy your day only to this 7-day schedule, not to other schedules.

09 – Saving the schedule

The schedule is complete; simply save it to apply it to your heaters.

31 - To save your schedule:

  1. Click "✓" (iOS) or "Save" (Android).
  2. Click "←" in the upper-left corner to return to the heating menu.
42 - Planning par intégration horaire FP - Sauvegarder le planning par défaut.GIF

  1. Click "Change" on the "Control type" tile.
  2. Select "Schedule" control.
  3. Click "✓" (iOS) or "Save" (Android).

What you need to know about schedules:

How many setpoint changes are allowed per day?

Flèche Enki 20px.png You can integrate up to 20 time slots per day.

09 - Comment fonctionne un planning individuel - Message d'erreur - Nombre de plage supérieur à 20.png

When editing your schedule, you can exceed 20 time slots, but when saving, an error message appears:

  • "At least one day in your schedule exceeds the limit of 20 time slots"

You must therefore reduce the number to a maximum of 20 time slots per day in order to save.

How do I delete a schedule?

Flèche Enki 20px.png Delete it from its edit screen.

01 - In the Heating menu, click the settings "" in the upper-right corner.

02 - Select the schedule to delete.

03 - Scroll down, click "Delete" and confirm again by clicking "Delete".

The schedule will be deleted and you will return to the modes and schedules.

44 - Planning par intégration horaire FP - Supprimer un planning.gif

An active schedule cannot be deleted. The following message is displayed:

  • “You cannot delete this schedule because it is currently running.”

To delete it, switch to another schedule or move it to another mode.

45 - Planning par intégration horaire FP - Supprimer un planning (Erreur).GIF
Can I give multiple schedules the same name?

Flèche Enki 20px.png No, each schedule must have a unique name.

What temperatures are recommended?

Flèche Enki 20px.png In a home:
      - Living room: 20.0 °C
      - Bedroom: 18.0 °C
      - Bathroom: 23.0 °C
It is recommended to lower the temperature by 2 to 3 °C in an unoccupied room.

Why can't the “Default” schedule be deleted?

Flèche Enki 20px.png A schedule is required. “Default” cannot be deleted or renamed, but its times and setpoints can be modified.

How can I tell if my device is following a schedule?

Flèche Enki 20px.png Use the following methods:

N2 - Objet - Mode planning FP.png
Consigne chauffage FP dans le menu chauffauge (Planning).gif

From your device's control page:

Check the control type and make sure schedule mode is enabled.

Through the heating menu:

Check the status of your devices: schedule, manual, frost protection, off, or individual.

Can I add a schedule to my favorites ?

Flèche Enki 20px.png No, schedules do not have a favorites system.

Are new heaters added to the schedule?

Flèche Enki 20px.png Yes, they are present but disabled by default in all available modes. For each mode, enable them and configure their setpoint.

Can I create multiple away modes with different temperatures?

Flèche Enki 20px.png Yes. Each mode must have a different name and can use a different temperature.

Why doesn't my radiator turn off?

Flèche Enki 20px.png Some heaters cannot be completely turned off. They then switch to the minimum temperature or frost protection mode.

How long does schedule synchronization take for heaters with built-in schedule capabilities?

Flèche Enki 20px.png It can take up to 15 minutes depending on the number of modes and devices involved. The more complex the schedule, the longer synchronization takes.

Can I copy a day's configuration to another schedule?

Flèche Enki 20px.png No. You must recreate it manually in the other schedule.

How do I change schedules?

Flèche Enki 20px.png In the schedule control type, tap "⁝" on the “Current schedule” tile, then tap “Change schedule.” Select the desired schedule, then tap "✓"  in the upper-right corner (iOS) or "Save" at the bottom of the screen (Android).

Why does one of my radiators, configured to remain under individual control, automatically switch to “At home” control mode and follow the collective schedule's setpoints instead of its individual schedule?

Flèche Enki 20px.png Even if its control type is set to “Individual control,” if it is included in one of the modes, it will automatically switch to “At home” control mode when that mode is applied. Please check that your heating device, which should be individually controlled, is excluded from all existing modes. When it is excluded, its slider appears gray in the relevant mode.
